The brief

In early June, Redbud replaced the roof on a ranch house on a quiet street in Jenks. For two days the neighbors watched the trucks, the dumpster and the crew, and some of them wondered about their own roofs, but nobody asks a stranger. The owner wanted that one finished roof to bring inspection requests from the same and nearby streets, with no discounts and no yard-sign clutter. The budget: a little for ads and 180 door hangers.

Goal
Turn each finished roof into inspection requests from the same street.
Who and where
Homeowners on the same and nearby streets in Jenks and Bixby who saw the trucks and the dumpster.

What the client gave me

The homeowners’ permission to show their house, the estimate photo from March, a handful of roof-day photos and the only crew picture they had. And a line from the owner I kept coming back to: most of their best jobs come from someone who knows a past customer.

What I made

Four posts and a door hanger from one job: a roof-day explainer, a before-and-after from the street, a crew introduction and a neighbor referral offer.

  1. What happens on roof day
What happens on roof dayBuilt from what the homeowner asked on roof day. Three times, three plain lines: off, on, magnet sweep for nails. It answers “how long?” and “what about my yard?” before anyone asks.Caption Roof day, start to finish. At 7 a.m. the old roof comes off. Around noon the new shingles go on. By 5 we’ve run a magnet over the yard and driveway for nails. One day, and you can park in your driveway that night.
  2. Same house. New roof.

Straightened and color-matched, no filters, no claims.Caption Same house, same street in Jenks, new roof. Thanks to the homeowners for letting us share it. If yours looks like the before, we’re happy to take a look.
  3. Meet the Redbud crew
Meet the Redbud crewSwapped the rushed selfie for two minutes by the truck at the end of the next job. First names go in the caption, so neighbors know who they’re talking to.Caption Meet the crew you’ve seen on the street this month: Andre, Katie and Luis. Family-owned in Tulsa. If you see the truck, come say hi.
  4. Neighbors refer neighbors
Neighbors refer neighborsThe offer is the owner’s: a free gutter clean-out for anyone who books an inspection and names the neighbor who sent them. Printed on the door hanger with a QR code.Caption If a neighbor sent you our way, tell us who when you book an inspection and we’ll clean out your gutters free. It’s our thank-you to both of you.

One ad, the before-and-after. It reached 9,400 people and got 312 clicks at about $0.95 each, which is fair for a two-mile audience. But only 8 requests came straight from it. People clicked, then walked over and asked the neighbor first.

What happened

The door hangers did more than the ad. 38 people scanned the code and 9 of them asked for an inspection, almost all within four days of the hangers going up. The ad brought clicks but only 8 requests: people who had watched the trucks wanted to ask the neighbor first, and then they called. The crew post got more comments than anything Redbud had posted, mostly people saying they knew one of the crew. Of the 23 requests, 14 named a neighbor, and 5 became jobs within three weeks.

What I’d do next

Spend less on ads for one street and more on the walk: door hangers the day the dumpster leaves, then a second round two weeks later. Ask for the Google review in person on the last day of the job, not by text a week later. And take a before photo from the street at every estimate, so every finished roof can be shown this way.
